Since June 5, visitors have been able to discover « René et Lévesque - Comment René est-il devenu Lévesque? » (René and Lévesque: how did René become Lévesque?) at Musée régional La Pulperie de Chicoutimi in Saguenay. Developed with assistance from Musée de la civilisation in Québec, the exhibition runs through January 31, 2027.
Julie Lemieux, director general of Musée de la civilisation, explains: ‘Following the success of « Broue. L’homme des tavernes », Musée de la civilisation is proud and delighted to partner once again with La Pulperie, a leading institution. This time, visitors will have the opportunity to discover the more intimate face of René Lévesque, a political figure who left a mark on Québec. With this exhibition, the museum wanted to move beyond the myth and encounter the unique, exceptional human being he was, while nurturing the love of Québec that we carry within us and that brings us together. We thank the La Pulperie team for hosting us again, allowing Musée de la civilisation to take to the road and continue sharing this remarkable exhibition.’

An Intimate Portrait of a Larger-Than-Life Figure
René Lévesque is unquestionably a defining figure in the Québec political landscape. His career, style and achievements continue to inspire the interest and respect of many. To honour him during celebrations marking the centenary of his birth, Musée de la civilisation and Fondation René-Lévesque collaborated on an exhibition offering an intimate portrait of the celebrated public figure.
Through extensive archival material and previously unseen objects, some once belonging to him, it follows the formative stages of Lévesque’s life, from his birth and childhood in Gaspésie to his death in 1987. Visitors encounter the child, journalist, war correspondent and politician who did things his own way, little troubled by convention and always with a touch of Tabasco.
